1998 Chevy Blazer LS. The torque spec for cylinder heads is requesting for 22 lbs 1st step and 2nd step for additional tightening at 55 deg. 65 deg. and 75 deg. How is that done in degrees. What is best for heads bolts thread sealant

 

These motors use what is called torque to yeild head bolts. Your first step is to tighten them to a set torque, then just as it says turn the bolt another set number of degrees. A 1/4 turn is 90 deg's, a 1/2 turn is 180 deg's. One whole turn would be 360 deg's.
This process prestreches the bolt, something that is requied when certain materials are used in the gaskets, the head, or blocks themselves.
I have not yet done this and I'm sure there is a tool for these head bolts. Your local parts store should have one you can rent, or if you find it's as easy as making measured turns with the eye, go for it.
