Torqueing LIM bolts

I have seen a suggestion to wait 24 hr between first and second torque settings for LIM bolts on the Vortec V6. Anyone have an opinion on this? Thank you

I have never waited and have never had a leaker. Waiting is not in the factory service manual procedure either. Just use the proper pattern and step up through the 3 torque values. Remember, the LIM bolts don't require much torque to provide adequate clamping force for the gasket design. Over tightening can result in a leak.

For the longest lasting repair, remember to get the updated Felpro gaskets with the metal frame. :icon_wink:

I have ordered the MS98002T Fel-Pro set. Thank you for your quick reply, swartlkk.

Indeed he does, and thank you for your reply as well. I had done this LIM about 3-4 years ago, and my helper and I didn't read the torque specs closely enough, he was going by ft lbs, and sure enough, cracked the LIM at #8 bolt. Had to get another LIM and do it all over, making sure to torque in INCH/Lbs, but I had used the Fel-Pro set that did not have the metal inserts, and it blew out again at the front coolant port. I used the Fel- Pro set with metal this time. Am in the process of re assembling everything else now, so we will see...
