rexmburns had a great solution to this, one I plan to do myself soon
universal 2" trailer hitches bolted inside the frame rails, then stick a shackle receiver, trailer hitch, step ladder, grill, whatever you want on it :D only works for 4wd frame, but why would you need such a stout recovery point on a 2wd anyway ;)

And now for the latest mod just completed like 20 min ago! Well almost I'm still waiting on parts to arrive but the hard part is over.
I got these from Fedex today. I ordered them from Harbor Freight with a coupon for $28 shipped. https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404766357 I then test fitted them and marked up some holes to be drilled. https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404766357 https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404766357 https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404766357 Then with everything drilled I pulled out my bag of leftover grade 8 3/8x1" bolts from my landrover project and used them to secure them to the frame. https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404766357 https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404766357 https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404766357 https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404766357 Here's a shot inside the receiver. You can see that I didn't put a nut on the end of the skid plate bolts but the are semi threaded into the receiver tube as well. I did not want to have to try and fight to get a nut on and off of there everytime I wanted to remove my skid plate. https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404766357 Yes I added washers before I tightened it! Once I had everything in place I shot a bit of bedliner on the bolts to make them black so they blend in with everything else. https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404766357 Heres a couple shots of the final product. Minus the receiver shackles since they aren't in yet. I will post up some pics of them when they get here though. https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404766357 https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404766357 https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404766357 And just to show the fitment with something actually in the receiver https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404766357 https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404766357 I am happy with it let me know what you think. |
Very nice Been trying to think of something like that for my blazer might give it a try. Very nice work!!! Could even weld a bull bar/Light bar up to it....HMMMM

The way Rex did it is probably the easiest with a stock bumper. I built a new bumper for mine and just added one into it. Attachment 31278 It also acts as my licence plate holder

Here's how I did mine, by having a machine shop drill and then tap bolt holes in 1-1/4" to 2" Hitch Adapters. I had them match the spacing and threads of the holes on the factory tow hooks so they'd line up with a minimal amount of swearing. I used the factory tow hook bolts as well.
https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404878182 I had some 1/4 inch plate plasma cut into mounting points "ears"and then welded to the D-ring receivers for mounting my bull bar. https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404878182 The bull bar can be removed simply by removing the two grade 8 bolts in both receivers and sliding out the D-Ring Receiver Hitch's. A tow ball receiver can be slid into either one of the Hitch Adapter's if desired. https://blazerforum.com/forum/attach...ine=1404878182 |
