Turn Popping/binding in 2wd
 

ok, for the sake of not hijacking the "Reverse Turn Clunk Thread" I am posting regarding my popping/binding problems.

Symptoms:
Low speed hard right turns - front right wheel seems to bind up and pop with the occasional shimmy of the tire sliding to the right (sort of like when in 4wd but it happens in 2wd) shimmy not always followed/preceded by pop/bind

Here is what is ruled out so far:
CV Shaft
UCA Bushings


Any thoughts?

Are the stops lubed on the lower control arms?
Is the right front axle disengaging in 2WD?

1: will be in the morning (even with the -5 wind chill)
2:should be, I can turn wheels independently of each other (I did just recently replace the t-case vac switch and some vacuum lines), will double check though

Raise only the right front wheel, in 2WD it should spin freely, engine at idle, transmission in park.

not engaged, i did grease the stops, but have not had a chance to test in a clear parking lot (can't do it at home)

Cool, at least we know the front axle is not engaged causing it to bind up. Hopefully greasing the stops will take care of it. Post your results;)

Please keep posting the progress on your issue. I'm watching with great interest as I sort out my own reverse turn clunk.

I did not have a chance to test yet, but will attempt in the morning (have to find a clear open parking lot to try in.

Tested this morning, popping was not noticeable, but the shimmying while turning is still there, I am going to say LCA bushings causing this shimmy, they are cracked but not failed yet, will be doing LCA bushings, torsion mounts, and sway bar bushings all this spring

Did you look at the upper control arm bushings too? I had to replace the uppers on my 98 this past Summer.
