turn signals not working
noobie blazer guy here..just bought a 96 S10 2 door 4wd. everything works but the turn signals, emergency flashers work, all brake lights work..but the signals don't. i'm an old honda bike tech, so i'm familiar with things mechanical..i got the signals to work by manually pushing the lever up and down..worked fine for a couple of hours..then they stopped again..i sprayed the switch in the colom with elec contact cleaner as well as the flasher button..still not working..i see the turn signal flasher is behind the glove box door..but i don;t think thats the problem..seems to be a contact problem inside the switch..i work at an ac delco distributor and i hate to pop for a 245 dollar switch(my cost) if thats not the problem..all help and replies appreciated, thanks..pj

RE: turn signals not working
Take apart the dash, and the steering wheel covers off and check the wires...
See if they rubbed up against something and are worn down or came loose...

I had a similar problem on my 95 blazer, turn sigs wouldnt work 4 ways would....the flashers on mine were under the dash (one for 4 ways and one for turn signal) they are (on a 95) under the radio area...i switched the 4 way one for the turn sig one and it worked...now i just dont have 4 ways...hehe always meant to fix that...

RE: turn signals not working
thanks for the replies..i've isolated the problem to the t/s switch itself..found a replacement on ebay for 60.00...gee i wonder why my ac delco is soo expensive @ 245.00 my cost..guess they have to pay for all those big buildings some way..now a new question..is it a major ordeal to install this..looks like i pull the top and bottom cover off the steering coloum behind the wheel and take out the old..put in the new..anything i need to be aware of ?? thanks again..pj

RE: turn signals not working
As far as I remember when I did one a while ago its not all that hard to do, once you get the covers off it should be a snap unless I remember wrong but it shouldn't be that difficult at all!!

Is this one of those jobs where you have to thread a potload of wires on a connector, down a hole that is slightly smaller than required??

RE: turn signals not working
Another question guys, my son is a certified ase tech, and seems to think the steering wheel, and or coloum has to be pulled in order to replace the turn signal switch. is this true ? also doing some research online, i see that the hazard switch is a common failure problem and can cause the signals to malfuntion. the lever seems fine, crisp, no slop..but the hazard switch IS toats..finally got it to stay down and keep from flashing, but when it was in the up position, the left signal did work..this leads me to believe the hazard switch may be the cause of the signal problem..gm has a new hazard switch for nine bucks...and is a 5 minute fix..can anyone shed some light on this..before i go further? thank again..pj

RE: turn signals not working
UPDATE :..this problem turned out to be a bad flasher. there are two identical flashers one for the hazzard, the other for the signals..swapped them per a suggestion here..and problem solved. they are located behind the cig lighter panel..as for installing a t/s switch..not a big problem should you need to. pull the plastic covers off the colum, and there are two screws that hold the switch on,..running the wires down the colum and plugging in..no big deal..should take no more than an hour..thanks for all the help..pj
