turning off the airbag
how do you turn off the airbag system on a 1997 chev blazer LT 4dr (4.3 vortex) ? thanks. pusher

[ol]Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
Remove the key from the ignition switch.
Remove the AIR BAG fuse from the fuse block.
Remove LH I/P sound insulation. Refer to Instrument Panel Replacement in Interior Trim Section 10A4.
Remove LH Knee Bolster. Refer to Knee Bolsters in Interior Trim Section 10A4.
Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) from the yellow 2-way connector at the base of the steering column. [/ol]
The AIR BAG warning lamp will turn on when the AIR BAG fuse is removed, and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

Disconnect the yellow 2-way connector.
Now, my question is, why would you want to disable the system? Are you doing some repairs that might possibly trigger its activation?

thanks for the reply richard. i'm finally getting around toreplacing the fan switch on the dash ,and have misplaced my repair manual. but i think i recall reading where i was to turn off the airbag before taking things apart. was i reading it wrong? thanks again. ted
