vent tube question
 

Hi I recently pulled the gas tank out of my 95 jimmy sls 4x4 to change the fuel pump, when I noticed that there's an additional vent tube coming out of the front of the tank which had been snapped off for some time (it was plugged with dirt, etc). There is nothing about this vent tube in the manual.

Would this cause the vehicle to run rough then cause a no-start? I assume it was overlooked by the po when the pump was last changed but I don't want to replace the pump if the problem could have been caused by a lack of pressure in the tank because of this broken vent tube.

I am unfamiliar with fuel injection, so I apologize for my ignorance. I am not sure if the whole tank needs to be pressurized or ???

When the truck was running, the check engine light came on intermittently but I couldn't get a code with the reader which I was told is common with these trucks.

Not sure but does the hose go to the evap can?

Hard to find a reader cause you need one that reads OBD 1.5

I changed my fuel pump on my 96 4 months ago and snapped this valve off of my truck when dropping the tank. Local autozone didn't have a replacement in stock. I ordered a new one and have not had the chance to replace it yet. Mine run's perfectly fine but does throw the SES light and gives off the small evap leak code. My understanding is the vent goes to the charcoal canister and has no affect on the performance of the vehicle. It does however vent gas fumes to open air and you can smell it on a full tank.
