heh, i could own a prius and still let it idle for 5min in the winter...

in all honesty to each his own, if I chose to let my money idle away so my **** isnt clenching shut when i sit on my seats then i shall do so...I pay the fuel bill in my vehicles so i can have the right to let my gear warm up before i break something or over stress something i prolly dont feel like fixing lol

I have an apartment about 2.5 miles away from the campus's commuter lot, so unless I am close to running late for class, I let it idle for 5 min to warm up after a cold start. If I drive it within the first 2 minutes, the lifters tick a little bit. I am going to use some Marvel Mystery Oil or Seafoam when I change the oil this week and then switch to Royal Purple. It only gets about 2 notches off the 100 mark (coolant flush and thermostat ARE going to get done this week) within that 5 min. If I AM running late for class, I let it idle for 2 minutes. If I shut it down to go into a store or something, if it is still warm, I let it idle for a few seconds while I get my MP3 player and radar detector working. If it is really cold (<32F/0C), I let it go for 10 minutes and then drive it. I was told by a mechanic (probably old school, but he seemed very knowledgeable when it came to Blazers) that warming the engine up will make an engine last a long time.

No big deal.
I too deeply disagree with that opinion...
Didn't the Op refer to area's below 32 degrees? If everyone in the USA is below 32 degrees, we really got screwed on our fair share of global warming...
