Weird Electric - any idea's ?
I've been a lurker for awhile and have found alot of good information, this timeI can't find anything real specific to my problem so I thought I would post and see if any of you have any good ideas.
The electrical problem I’m having is somewhat similar to this other thread but a little more extensive. When I’m driving down the road all of a sudden my whole dash goes crazy. The tach and speedo both flip to max and all the lights on the dash light up. This all happens very quickly. I do not notice any lose of power when this happens.
Other symptoms I have observed is engine noise feedback on the radio and the gear selector/ mileage read out sort of flicker. Also when I hit the brakes it appears the headlite dims or cuts out for a mili second. Sometime when I get in the car the clock has reset like it lost power.
This morning when I got to work and shut the car off, the whole thing went completely dead. No dome lights nothing when I turn the key just nothing. I worked for about 20 minutes and went back to check on it. I opened the door and the dome light was on. I tried to start it, the first time it would not start (turned over though) the 2nd time it started and died, the 3rd time it started and ran.
I think I got me a gremlin….and his name is not gizmo. With this being electrical I know I could spend hour chasing this thing and was hoping I could get some likely culprit ideas from the members here.
Thanks in advanced for any replies!

RE: Weird Electric - any idea's ?
Have you inspected the dash wiring harness for prior repairs/hacks/etc?? Some of this sounds like symptoms of a failing ignition switch, but some of the other systems are not related to that...

I haven't check under the dash yet. I had it die on me this morning on my way to work. It completely blacked out. Nothing just as if there was no battery in. Everything turned right back on after a few seconds and took 3 trys to get started. I'm assuming the hard start has to do with the computer getting reset.
I'm leaning moretowards checking out the main power circuit. Does all the power run through oneof the computers and could this be a symptom of itfailing? Does any one have a simple wiring diagram for the main power circuit?
Any other ideas?

These are similar problems to what I have been having for quite some time now, still haven't tried fixing any of them yet tho, especially with new problem.

Sounds like your alternator is going out.

If it's still got the AC Delco battery, check to make sure the terminals aren't corroded to poop...
