Weird noise behind glove box and lights flickering! HELP!

Ok so I have a 97 blazer just got some front end work done, belt and tensioner and the transfer case is about to be replaced. But im having a weird problem I am hearing this like flicker sound or like something hitting a fan sound coming from behind the glove box area... When this happens the lights shutoff, i can tell because there is a green light on the dash that comes on when the lights are shut off like the foglight symbol i think. Anyways anyone know what could be causing this and where that noise could be coming from, I have 4x4 but no power locks or windows, all manual! Thanks in advanced...

if the 97 is like the 95 there should be a little access door in the back of the glove box that you can remove. There will be 2 or 3 relays in a panel behind that access door. One is for the fuel pump, one is for the lights and I don't remember what the third one is for as not all blazers have 3 (mine only has 2 relays but there is room for a third).

Sounds like maybe your relay is going bad. By the way, on the 95's the relays (one for the fuel pump and the other for the lights) have the same part number. But if you flip flop them on the panel and your light relay is bad your fuel pump won't work....

Don't knwo what they cost but they're easy to remove/replace once you get the access door out of the way.

btw that green light you're looking @ is the DRL (daytime running lights) symbol - check the relay's as said above and last time i replaced a relay for my turn signals it was around the $15-$20 mark so it could be around this price as well... if u have a junk yard close to you go there they'll likely either give it to you free (if its a pull your own parts) or for a dirt cheap price of a couple bucks.

Thanks guys i'll check it out

are the DRL's supposed to be on anytime the lights are off? Even during the day?

Fixed, I tried replacing the relays in the glove box, no luck. It turned out to be the light switch on the dash. Got one for $3.00

Have same issue, was it the headlight switch causing the problem??

ok, replaced headlight switch, DRL's & relay no longer flicker & chatter while driving, but now its only when using the brake pedal. Any other ideas, could it be in the brake light swiitch or the DRL module?? Would like some other input on this. Thanks

You're saying the DRL /relays flicker and chatter when you depress the brakes?

Or something else? Sorta start over. Anything else funny going on?

Yea thats weird, it most likely the switch being used when the noise occurs, ie. brake light switch...

But for me it was the headlight switch it would short out or something and it sounded like it was popping an automatic breaker in the glove box
