Weird Overheating Issue.
Hey guys My dads truck 97 s10 pickup 4.3 has a weird overheating issue.
The truck gets to 240 degrees. When I open the hood the top of the motor is warm. I could place my hand on top and would not even burn my self. I replaced the thermostat under warranty and it stopped doing it. Today it did it again. Now I notice the top of the motor is warm and the heat does not work. Possible heater core being plugged? AN other bad thermostat? Im at a loss. I would flush the heater core but its -12 and the outside water is turned off. Im at a loss. Its possible the issue is right in front of my face but I dont see it. IM just really cold and tired. :icon_neutral: |
my blazer did the same thing its a 96. flushed it refilled with antifreeze haven't had a problem since... ever since it did get to 240 the rad will only fill up about 3/4ths of the way no matter how many times i fill it it just settles there, but i cant see any leaks.
Flush it hope that fixes it. lol |
sadly I wont be able to flush it till it gets warmer. But I do agree with flushing it.. I was on the same track.

same problem on my 96. it would randomly over heat. Flushed it a few times and no problems since.

Dexcool?
When ya flush it make sure ya park it on an incline nose up to refill it. |
Sheww my truck hasn't had dexcool in it for 200k when i got it the insides of the rad were so gunked up after 2 flushes, i just went and bought a new one and swapped to good ole green.
Hope the flush fixes it, Good luck! |
Drill a 1/8" hole in the thermostat plate. This will allow the air to purge in the system and result in a better regulation of the coolant temp.
