Default what's that little aluminum plate on the tb for?

ok so the other day i took the intake off and i opened up the throttle body to look in and see if it was clean or not. when i opened the butterfly there was an aluminum plate that blocked some of the direct flow. i decided to take that off so the air would flow more freely, hopefully freeing up some extra hp as well. i noticed 2 small holes in the butterfly where the plate was riveted or somehow attached. i started the vehicle and of course i had a higher idle that normal so i went to the parts store and got some small screws washers and nuts. tomorrow i'm going to grind the screws down to as small as they can be and use some loctite and put a screw with a washer on one side and a washer and nut on the other side so that there's no chance of a vacuum leak through those holes. has anyone else done this?

what's some other ways i can free up alittle extra horsepower for the blazer. my performance plans include making my intake better, tb spacer, programmer, and maybe full exhaust. does anyone have any pics of side mount dual exhaust coming out just before the rear tire? i think i'd like that.

Before you jump on that idea, read up on some of the posts here concerning the TB deflector. Use the 'search' function for 'throttle body + deflector'.

i did this on my 98 blazer with the 4.3L. i'll keep the plate to see if i notice any negative effects. i never thought to look at the shape of the head to see if it would have any effect on the air flow pattern. at the time i was just thinking "more air coming in, hell yea". i mean i know they put it there for a reason but, wasnt sure why.

has anyone one here every blocked their egr? i did this on an old 4cyl i had. i didn't effect performance negatively at all. all i knew was that now i was breathing in fresh air instead of spent gases. could this be done on the v6 without any problems?

also, are there any diy mods for extra hp?

Since the EGR is part of the emission control system we don't discuss bypassing it, per the Forum rules.
