Wheel bearing replacement (O-ring??)

Gents,
In the middle of a wheel bearing/hub replacement on a '98 4dr 2wd and needing some help. After a lot of searching, I notice a lot of people talking about the need for a 36mm socket to get a CV nut off. I didn't have to do this.. Was I looking at a different year model DIY?

Anyways, the reason for the thread is on my new hub assembly I purchased, there is a large O-ring on the back of the hub where it meets the spindle. After taking the old hub off, I noticed it did not have this O-ring. So my question is do I leave the O-ring on, and if I do, does it actually go in that hole in the spindle or stay between the mating surfaces between hub and spindle?

kinda confused.. just want to confirm before I button it all back up.

Thanks!

EDIT: Also, if anyone can confirm all the torque specs for me, that'd be awesome too!!

A 4 wheel drive hub is the one you bought... take it back and get the right part

Actually you may have the correct part, but you are confusing 4wd application for your 2wd... it would be pretty obvious if you have the wrong part once you got the hub off

I have the right part. A 4wd hub would have room for an axle nut which this does not. Another DIY online says the O-ring is for "25 series" vehicles.. not sure what that means, but I'm pretty sure mine isn't. I took the O-ring off and it just felt "right" when I put it back on without it.

I torqued the 3 hub bolts to 77ft lbs, but not sure what the caliper bolts should have been torqued to. Anyone know?

Here's a 4x4 hub: http://cdn101.iofferphoto.com/img/it...2/237/o7RB.jpg

Does anyone sell the wheel hub assembly o-ring only? I had to change out the cv axle & the o-ring tore when removing the wheel hub assembly.

The oring is a dealer only item. I tore mine doing my ball joints, a two hour job turned into an overnighter lol.
