Windshield wipers

Now and again my wipers will not work. Sometimes they are very slow. Let me start off by says I have been searching the forum for awhile now and I saw the posts about fixing the soldiers. Now, The other day my wipers would not work and I got ticked off and hit the steering wheel and then they came on. So, It seems to me that maybe the switch in the colum would be bad. Questions, is there a harnes that maybe would be loose or in need of dielectric greese in the colum? Would that little hit be enough to jar the souldiers to make the wipers work again? would that little hit be enough to jar a malfunctioning wiper motor into working again? Blinkers and everything else work fine on the colum. Oh yea, 2004 Blazer

RE: Windshield wipers

I've got the same problem with my 98 LS. i've been reading other posts on here and it seems to be the module switch that's part of the shaft where your blinkers and wiper control is inside. always nice when they work on days you don't need them but they always seem to quit out on me when it rains or snows. I've solved this problem very temporarily when they quit out on me by just wiggling it around turning on blinkers, fluid, cruise, etc. and often they seem to start working again. hopefully someone can add some more knowledge to this and confirm i'm on the right track for the real problem

You could test the wiring at the wiper motor to confirm that the switch itself is not working (see schematic below):

With that said, when you hit your steering wheel, it is possible that the vibration was enough to connect the failed contacts in the wiper motor pulse board. It is quite easy to check the pulse board. I would definitely start there.
