We had some heavy snow a few weeks ago and I cleaned my 95 Blazer off, started it up and put on the defrost and the wipers on low. I went back in the house. I didn't realize that the right side wiper was stuck in ice and not functioning. Anyway here's what I have now - the left wiper functions perfectly, the right wiper sort of works when it wants to... gets tangled up in the other wiper and causes me some headaches.

So what do I fix? I initially thought that the wiper motor went bad, but then figured out there is only one wiper motor for both wipers, with the left side working perfectly I don't think thats the problem. I know nothing of wipers, how they work, or how to repair them, but I'd sure like to fix this.

What do you suspect is wrong? Thanks for any help you can give...

 

Sounds like you stripped out the wiper arm. If your arms have a nut that you can tighten, you may want to try that first, but if not, then you may have to find another arm.

 

I took off the wiper arm and it looks like the grooved metal piece that sticks out and attaches to the wiper arm is not in the best shape, nor is the inside of the wiper arm itself. Is it possible that I'll end up replacing the wiper transmission, I was taking a look around online and it appears that the grooved metal piece is part of the transmission.

Think I outta try getting a new wiper arm and see if that solves it? Maybe the new grooves on the wiper arm will be enough to cause it to work well enough - without having to replace the transmission, which looks like a pain the ***.

The stub shaft that the arm mounts to is much harder metal. Clean the grooves out with a small screw driver or o-ring pick and put a new arm on.
