Default Zr2 transmission

Is there a difrance in a basic s10 4x4 transmission vs the zr2 transmission, mine went out in my zr2 and I can't find a site that will tell or sell me one besides for a manual transmission? Can anyone help?

I was just confirming my post when yours appeared. Ironically, one of the reasons the 2004 Jimmy ZR2 I recently purchased was listed as a "parts vehicle" was it had transmission problems (no 2nd gear). I have confirmed in my research that all models with an automatic have the 4L60E transmission regardless of being 2 or 4 wheel drive or base or ZR2. Only the transfer cases and differentials and driveshafts are different in some. In fact I was told by the parts store that you can use the 4L60E from some other GM vehicles. I can 99% say from my recent research and 10 year experience working on ZR2s that the transmission is the same. There are guys here with much more knowledge and expertise than me and I'll defer to them but if you need it in a hurry you should be safe.

I'll second SurreyBrad's comments that they are all the 4L60E transmission, and they are fairly interchangeable. Some have said that swapping a 2wd transmission to a 4wd truck or vice-versa might require an ECM flash, but I don't have any first hand knowledge of this.

If possible I'd also try to stay within the refresh version windows (94-97, 98-2002, and 2003+) just to certain on compatibility.

I don't think this fella is going to be reading your replies. The post is from 2014.

Strange. It just loaded and the end of the page I was reading. I thought it was some just newly added comment. I didn't pay any attention to the date. Thanks.
