Broken Hazard Switch Repair
 

This is very inexpensive and easy fix for any S-series vehicle from 1995 and up.
All you need is a pair of needle nose pliers (or leatherman) and a replacement hazard switch.

A replacement hazard switch can be purchased at www.parts4chevys.com for under $20.00 shipped, or at GM dealership for under $12.00

The GM part number for the switch is 15174447.
It goes by the name "SW KIT HAZARD"

chances are you had some ghetto setup like this to keep your hazard lights from constantly flashing.

The switch is broken half-way off in the socket

Grab the edge of the switch and just yank it out. You may have to wiggle the plastic housing to get the broken switch completely out.

If there's any little pieces of plasic or other debris in the empty socket, now is the time to get it out.

This kit comes comes with a small tube of dielectric grease. Coat the lower section of the switch.

Insert the new switch and you're done. Much cheaper than purchasing a new assembly.

Double posting at it's greatest. What part of the description above didn't you understand...? Grab a hold of the switch and pull....

Thanks. I found on NHTSA page detailed information how to remove hazard switch. My problem was where to put screwdriver.

Pictures are worth 1000 words, must be you need more...

If you read this post here and look at the pictures, you will see that a screwdriver is not used. Only a pair of needle nose pliers (well, in this case, they look like a Leatherman Super Tool, but that is besides the point).

If you really want to make this more difficult than it needs to be, tear apart your steering column and use the screw driver as shown in that document (or this one 98+ Hazard Switch Replacement - you could have saved yourself some time searching through NHTSA). It really is quite easy, but you probably won't believe me (or anyone else) until you get in there and actually try it.

My hazard switch is no broken so I can not imagine how to remove it without screwdriver. I really tried to remove it and was not able to do it :(. Now I removed it and ordered new one. Hazard switch seems to be a source of noise from turn light flasher when turning swich is at 0 position. Is it possible?

If it isn't broke, then it's even easier. Grab hold of it with pliers and pull. It'll pop right out.

As far as your problem, this is not the proper place to discuss your technical issues. If you have a question pertaining to steps in this article, that is one thing, but this thread is a discussion on this article only.

You won't have any hazard, brake, or turn signals until you replace it, but it wouldn't hurt anything if it wasn't there.
