How to delete the oil cooler lines Thread.
Well,im bored. Has this been written on here? I dunno. hopefully im not wasting my time when i could be drinking tonight...
Anyways. So can you remove the cooler lines because we know they leak?,alot....its common... Yes you can. Now,should you? Maybe. Do you tow? did you nod your head and say yes? then no,replace them. Do you offroad? if you beat the living heck out of your blazer, then no,replace them. Do you drive it as a daily driver and pick up coffee creamer at the store for your old lady? Then YES you can delete em. Now onto the "How to" 1st gens (square body style) If you have a square body blazer,or s10. then you can remove the fitting and reuse it (that thing the oil filter screws onto) Note: if your vehicle is a round body style (2nd gen),then chances are you have to buy the fitting im about the talk about, its gm part # 14081300. usually about 12 bucks. Now,the how to : remove oil filter and remove cooler lines, just bend/push em out of the way. You dont have to remove em unless you want. dont worry about the radiator, even though the oil cooler runs through it,its totally 2 separate systems. Now, that threaded fitting the filter screws onto, take a torx bit and remove it. I dont remember what size it is,but it simply unscrews out. Save this fitting. Then, you will have 2 bolts to remove on the adapter under the block. Remove em! and pull the adapter off. You will have a gasket inside the block once you remove the adapter. If it came off with the adapter then buy a lottery ticket as it rarely happens you lucky man. Grab a flat head screwdriver, knives, box cutter blades etc. You gotta clean that old gasket off. Cant leave it. Once done spray the area with some brake cleaner to get the garbage off. Now,that fitting you took off....screw it into the block. Yes your block will have a hole in it,thats threaded. screw it in until its tight, but dont torque the heck out of it. then install the filter. Done. Takes 30 minutes to do this at most. (20 minutes is getting that old gasket off) If you have 4wd,you cant use the filter it calls for,as its too long and wont clear the front diff. You need to use the Ac delco Pf-47 filter,as its shorter and gives you the room you need. If you want something else, have em cross reference that part #. So,hope this helps yall. |
