How To: Wire RHD Euro Blazer Tails - DISCUSSION THREAD
Well After some trial and errors, Karcinagin and I have figured out how to wire the 4 bulb RHD Euro Blazer taillights. I have just compeleted the install on my bravada and turned out great. For any of you who have them and want to wire them up here is a how to do it.
* http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0851.jpg http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0852.jpg * * Items you will need: - 50 ft of 18 gauge wire - 2 single filament light bulb sockets (I just went to the local parts yard and cut 2 reverse light sockets from a blazer) http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0958.jpg - Soldering Iron and Solder - Wire stripper - Electrical Tape * * Before you begin remove the negative from the battery. (Dont want any live wires) * 1. Remove Both Headlights and taillights * 2. Now you will start running the wires. Behind the brake pedal there should be an opening that leads to the engine bay. Now run 2 seperate wires from the inside out. (Each side will take about 20 ft of wire from front to back) http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0923.jpg http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0979.jpg Now that the wires are out you will need to run*them up and around to the front of the truck. Heres a quick diagram on how I ran the wires. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0951.jpg Try your best to do it as clean as possible. Use zip ties to secure the wires. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0981.jpg http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0980.jpg * 3. Now*that*the wires are run to the front,*take the turn signal bulb that is on the headlight housing and cut back the tape on the wires. You will see a light blue and brown wire leading to its socket. Take the light blue wire and strip it back a little*exposing*the*wire.* Now take the wire you just ran and wire it to the light blue wire. (You will do this to both*the driver and passenger side* headlight turn signal/park light) http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0922.jpg Solder the wires together and tape the exposed wires. Put your headlights back in. * 4. Now once your are finished wiring the the front end, its time to run the rest of the wiring to the rear tailights. *From the opening in the firewall run the drivers side wire under the carpet and up the side of the cab. Running it under the plastic trim and panels to the back of the truck. (When Placing the trim back down make sure you do not pinch the wire with the clips) http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0924.jpg http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0925.jpg * *Once you get to the back remove the jack cover and run the wire behind the panel. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0927.jpg You will*also have to remove the top and bottom trim pieces in the rear. (Held in by clips) http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...IMG_0805-1.jpg The top trim will have some wires attached to it, just et it hang, no need to disconnect anything. * 5. Now locate the tailight wiring harness. (Its the only plug back there) http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0928.jpg Follow the harness and fish the wire up and out the back. In order to do this remove the rubber grommet holding the wiring harness on the outside. Once You have the wire out the back, run the wire through the gromment. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0957.jpg * 6. Now take the single filament bulb socket and wire the green wire*to the wire you just ran. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0966.jpg Then find one of the black wires on the harness and strip a little back and wire the black wire from the socket to it. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0959.jpg solder the the wires and tape them. * Drivers side turn signal is now wired up. * 7. Now its time to run the passenger side. From the opening in the firewall run the wire under the carpet to the side of the cab. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0952.jpg Now run the wires like you ran the drivers side. under the trim and behind the rear panel and fish it to the back. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0963.jpg http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0967.jpg * 8. Once you run it out the back you will wire the turn signal socket just like the drivers side. using step 6 * now both rear turn signals are wired up. * Wiring up Parking/Brake lights: * 9. Follow the wires attached to the top trim. You will see a plug with yellow and black wires on one side and white and black on the other. The white and black wires are the third brake light wires. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0956.jpg Strip the white wire back a little and wire two 5ft (give or take a bit) wires to it. (one for the drivers side and one for the passengers side. Solder the wires and tape them up. * 10. Now run the wires behind the rear panels and to the tailight harness plug. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...IMG_0805-2.jpg http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0964.jpg * 11. Now once at the tailight harness plug, pull back the tape exposing 4 wires. Cut the yellow wire. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0946.jpg * 12. Take the wire you ran from the third brake light and wire it up to the yellow wire. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0948.jpg solder it and tape it up. * 13. Do the same to the passenger side. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0963.jpg http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0960.jpg * Your parking/brake lights are now wired up. * Snap the rear panels back in and Put the top and bottom trim back on. (Make sure when putting the top trim on, not to pinch the wires) * 14. Now you will have to grind down the wide tap on the bottom brake socket only. (It will not fit right) http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0965.jpg * Socket will be loose so to seal it up apply some silicone around it. * From top to bottom the lights are: Park/Brake Turn Signal Backup Park/Brake * Once complete tape up the wires and put the taillights back in. http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...o/IMG_0968.jpg Put negative back on the battery and test the lights to make sure everything works properly. * http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...h_MVI_0971.jpg http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...a/IMG_0987.jpg http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...a/IMG_0988.jpg http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/q...a/IMG_0995.jpg * Hope I explained it enough and it makes sense. Thanks!
I have the turns wired up, today is the day for the brake lights. :) And I found you can remove the socket core for the bulb sockets, I used an awl and with a bulb inserted just tug on it as you work the little tabs loose down by the gasket. I used three backup sockets, and my local pick & pull charged me $5 per pigtail, so I got the pigtails from three different blazers and both sides of the plugs with that. Take apart two of the backup sockets, and use a drill that's a few sizes to small and ream out the little tab blocking the middle wire location, then drill all the way through, now take a socket core from a three wire plug and remove it, now you will notice that both light sockets have a little key to ensure they go in straight and that you cannot mix up the cores, just take a hack saw to the three prong core and run the hacksaw to the side of one of the tabs to make more space for the key. Once that's done you should beable to slide it in easy, take the wires that are going to the bottom socket with the core removed, and just give them a little tug, they will slide out easy, just reinstall into the new modded socket in the same locations, and make sure the middle connector is lined up with the other two, and install the socket till it clicks in. If needed use a little RTV on the middle socket wire, mine went in pretty well but I went ahead and sealed it up anyways. I hope all of that makes some sense... :icon_teeth: I wish I had a camera, my wife likes to keep it in her purse. :( |
