1997 Blazer radio install

anyone have any pics on what a aftermarket radio looks like installed. I was going to buy a new radio from crutchfield and it says the new radio will stick out 1 1/4 inches. I wanted to know if it looks tacky or if I should just keep my stock radio.

Thanks for the pic. That doesn't look bad. Did you have to cut out the back bolt for the stock radio to put the radio in??

I was looking at putting in a Dual XHD7714 in. Crutchfield says:

Installation Details

Modified Fit - Requires Modification
Installation Details for your 1997 Blazer
» To install this product, you'll have to modify your vehicle. » Extension kit -- when installed, the radio will protrude from the dash by 1-1/2". » Unbolt or cut out the factory stereo's rear support bracket to make room for your new receiver.

The Kenwood looks nice and flush. It sounds like the radio I want will be sticking out an 1 1/2".

My girlfriend had a Dual HU in her 2000 Ford Focus, it stuck out about an inch or so due to the way it was made. It has a drop down front panel and protrudes a bit. You push a button and the front panel comes out and drops down so you can insert a CD. It was ok but it developed a problem where it would just cycle up and down all day. It was very annoying. We replaced it with a Pioneer HU.

It also depends on the dash kit you are getting. Some of the EL Cheapo ones will make it poke out. I don't like the look of them at all. The ones made by Metra are good and the Schoche brand is decent as well. I already had a Kenwood in mine when I bought it. So when I replaced it with the newer Kenwood unit it was just plug and play.

I'm not sure who made my dash kit but the texture and feel of the plastic matches the HVAC controls perfectly. I'm very happy with it.

Maybe I'l buy a Kenwood instead. Thanks for everyone's pics!
