Another double din install
So i came across a double din for my truck. Looking around at all the info on the installs for these trucks and i just wasn't all that impressed and was sure i could find an easier way so here is what i did. Removed all interior stuff necessary. Removed single din adapter. Now is where it gets interesting....looking at sizes ect and not wanting to cut the plastic behind my dash i decided to try to modify my single din adapter.

Next, install modified adapter back into dash and bolt it in. Next is nice and easy, since mine came with the side spacers i adjusted the depth and slid it in. Once in i found that it was a bit loose along the top and showed the stereo steel so i took an old console i have and cut a strip about two inches deep and the length of the stereo. Very carefully slide that piece into the top edge between the stereo and adapter. Now all tight. Reinstall all the trim and good to go. Stereo is very secure and doesn't look bad at all. And better yet..no dash cutting. Hope this helps others in the future. |
Yeah I had to do some internal trimming to fit a double din sized Pioneer into my dad's Sonoma because of the radio's depth. I did use a double din specific install kit though.
