Big 3 upgrade?

Anyone done the "big 3" upgrade in a 98 or newer blazer or jimmy? I just wanna make sure i'm not going to run into any problems.

I'm hoping to get mine done in the next couple months, I know lots have done it without issue.

I did the big 3 uprade on my 2010 Jeep JKU and will be doing the wifes 1995 Blazer next

0 gauge wire all around

0 gauge Battery Neg to body Ground
0 gauge Alternator Mounting Bracket to Body Ground
0 gauge Battery Pos to Alternator with 200amp ANL Fuse inline (fuse no more than 8 - 10 from the battery)

Did it on my 01 with no issues

i've done it on a 87, 88, 91, 2 93s, 94 s-series, a 96 nissan hardbody, 81 honda accord, 78 nova, 79 camaro, and a 69 gmc with no problems.

alt charging post to + battery
- battery to frame
from that frame point to engine block (alt bracket), core support, and fender

On my blazer i also ran a cable from body to frame in the rear cargo section. The bolt sticks in the cab and i use it as a lug to bolt my inverter, stereo amp, and cb amp - to

Why did you fuse it? I heard that fusing it is not needed.

gadget799 09-05-2012 07:21 PM

i fused it on my JK because i upgraded my alternator to a 200 amp high output model but as for the blazer i will fuse it as well better safe than sorry consider it a little piece of security rather a $3 fuse blow than some other part that may cost waaay more ..

I can see your logic, I guess I was just questioning it since there is not a fuse there to begin with. But hey, extra added security.

xgiovannix12 09-05-2012 07:43 PM

there is a fuseable link in the original wires... Its in the wire its self.

richphotos 09-05-2012 07:56 PM

hmm interesting, either way, when I do the big 3, its not getting a fuse. All the tutorials for it said its "NOT" needed LOL
