Big Three Upgrade
Well I decided that it is time to upgrade the Big 3, and am planning on doing it here in the next couple of weeks. I went to go print out the thread in the Do-it-Yourself forum and ran into a slight problem, it cuts off half way through step two (I don't know if something happen to it but i know it was there a month ago). Since it is not there I have a couple questions. First, what gauge wire should I get? Next, should I get ones that already have the terminals on it, if available? I have an Optima Red Top with both GM and standard peg style terminals, should I stick with the GM style, or go with the traditional peg style? Whill it really make a difference? Also, with my amp hookup, should I modify that to work with the peg style if I switch over to that? Any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance.

RE: Big Three Upgrade
Does this make that much of a difference? My lights dim pretty bad now and I really dont want to buy a power cap.

RE: Big Three Upgrade
caps are not for dimming headlights.

RE: Big Three Upgrade
My lights dim as well...and everyone, even my mechanic told me to get a cap...then the dude at the pawn shop that sold me my system said theire useless...
I think this is worth a try, so im going to go ahead and do it when it stops raining. |
RE: Big Three Upgrade
if you dont understand what a capacitor actually does to your electrical system, I highly recommend you do NOT install it. Please do some research first. Installing a capacitor at the wrong times can actually harm other electrical components such as your battery and alternator. There should be some capacitor threads already on this forum.

RE: Big Three Upgrade
Caps are for items that need a short burst of power (amps) and useless for anything that needs long term power (lighting).

RE: Big Three Upgrade
I realize that,
It works a a quick release battery, but i still think its pretty much useless unless your drawing major loads and loads of power extremely fast. Ive gotten many different answers to the light dimming problem, many of which i know wont work. someone told me to get a high output alternator, but that won effect it since the lights actually dim when i press my electric locks when the car is off...as i tried to state earlier, i think the big 3 will make the biggest impact out of any of those possible solutions to this problem... |
RE: Big Three Upgrade
