Default Bose Speaker question

My truck has an Alpine head unit but original Bose speakers. These speakers are 18 years old with 2000 build date on them.

First question. Is where is the Bose amp located?

Should I look to replace the system with aftermarket or keep the stock speakers and update the Head Unit?

the previous owner was a bit of a moron and every he touched seems to be wrong or incomplete. He had a sub woofer or attempted to have one from the wires. He would do things part way. Like not putting all the bolts in on the water pump..
Thanks. In advance

I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy with the Bose system. I believe the amp is located in the center console. My systems sounds great with the factory head unit. I can't help with the other questions.
