Can you replace a stock rear 9.5 ohm speaker with a 4 ohm speaker?
Hi,
Working with a 2000 Blazer LT with completely stock stereo equipment (AM/FM/Cassette). I am looking to replace the rear speakers which are 9.5 ohms each. I have read that an 8 ohm replacement would be fine, but since 4 ohm speakers are much easier to find aftermarket, I was wondering if it would be safe to replace these 9.5 ohm speakers with 4 ohm aftermarket ones while still using the stock head unit. Thanks |
I've wondered this myself. I've read where people have said it will burn up the radio, and others say it will be fine. I wouldn't mind hearing a good explanation

From what I hear it should handle 4 ohms just fine but if you are worried either get a new deck or use some 8 ohm speakers.
