CB radio newbie here

I'm looking to get into CB radio. I've never used one, I was going to go out and buy one, but then I did a bit of research and found that it isn't just like buying a two-way radio, I need to get an antenna, and tune it, and stuff. I have no idea what I'm doing.

I've tried google, but there's just too much noise. Any CB'ers out there have any tips for a newbie? Antenna, radio models, where to mount/install both....

thanks in advance. btw my blazer is a 2004, in case it matters.

Hey i have a uniden pc68xl, which is a great radio and a wilson little will antenna, If i were you i would get a wilson mag mount antenna.

get a Cobra 29 WX Nightwatch, its about $129, if you are going to go magnet mount, which i advise against go with a K40 magnet mount, its the best magnet mount on the market, however i have a Wilson 2000 Trucker with a custom fab bracket and it works phenomenal. If you go hard mount (best possible mount) then defiantly go with at least a Wilson 1000 Trucker, aso get yourself a decent SWR meter so you can tune your radio and get it matched up properly. Depending on how much you want to use it I also recommend a Astatic power mic, and you should be talking for miles!

Thanks, those replies were very helpful. I've decided to go with a cheaper radio to begin with, since I've never used one before. I chose the Midland 1001Z radio. I'll also (probably) pick up a Wilson Little Wil for the top of my blazer.

Any tips on where to run the cable for the antenna?

depending were you mount it if you mount it near the back rear run it right through the hatch if not use a door

ya i put mine toward the front, it ran it thru the gap in the weather seal on the rear of the rear door, just don't smash coax cable it will ruin it
