CB whip as fm antenna?

I'm going to get 2 fiberglass whips and mount them to the back of my jimmy and was thinking if possible use one whip for a cb radio and one as my fm antenna and shave the stock fm antenna. Would hooking the radio to the whip be as simple as splicing the wires together or is there something special I need to buy? Or would my fm range decrease so much it wouldn't be worth it?

not even worth it.....

you will be wasting your money trust me or not but i warned ya...your fm recive will suffer a loss of about 25-30% AND YOUR CB TX AND RX WILL SUFFER THE MOST A CB ANTENNA AND FM RADIO ANTENNA ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE SAME THING....grr caps lock sry to lazy to retype

ok ..then whats the diffrence between a stock antenna and a cb whip? if i do it im just goina wire it to the original antenna wiring and hav it goto my cd player and not a CB radio
i dont expect to GAIN anything but i dont see how you can loose anything eather...

a stock fm antenna is designed for recive only a cb antenna is for both recive and transmit..as a cb antenna needs to be as close to a 1/4 wave it has to be almost 9ft tall to make this target. in the earler years of cb someone found out you could wrap wire in a coil around a fiberglass rod and loose little efficiency and have a much shorter antenna that's easier on the trees and car ports.

as far as hooking it up to just receive fm radio and nothing else it might work okay not sure but they are more then a fm radio antenna so u would be spending more money anyway.

the stud for standard uhf/vhf antenna is 1/4x3/8 so u would have to buy other hardware to make it work and im not sure you want that kinda trouble as a fm antenna is nowhere near that size and you would have to run new coax and the ends are diffrant and just whole lot of not compatible stuff

Not trying to push the product, but the http://www.firestik.com/Tech_Docs.htm page has some excellent articles on CB antenna selection and use.
