double DIN install in 99 Bravada

i am kinda a noob when it comes to radio installs, although i have installed single DIN radios in several of my own cars i have never done a double DIN. my 1999 Bravada currently has a Dual XDVD770BT radio which is really nice but i wanted to upgrade to a touch screen. i ordered a Planet Audio P9630B which advertises "true double DIN fit" (not sure what that means) anyway is there a write up on double DIN installs for the Bravada? i ask this because in my experience with previous installs the kits from Scosche and Metra advertise they fit Blazer, Jimmy, and Bravada but without serious modification i have not been able to get one of these kits to fit the Bravada following the instructions to the letter. like they assume it will fit because they fit the others? either way im reaching out to the enthusiasts for help. tried search function but didnt find anything specific to the Bravada

If I'm not mistaken, all S-chassis Bravadas came with double din sized radio openings, which cannot be said for ALL S10's, Blazers, Sonomas, or Jimmy's, as for those it depends on the year.

If you can post a picture of your current radio setup I can tell you for sure, but all that you should need is a double din install kit and it'll be as easy as installing a single din, just twice the height ;)

this is how the radio is now minus the trim ring which i lost. the factory had a solid metal cage behind it which the instructions called "radio pocket" and told me to re use it

i just measured and looks like my radio opening with the bezel installed is 4in. as you can see to even get this unit to fit i had to trim the opening a little using a file

Yeah that's definitely the double din sized opening. So long as you get the double din bracketry you'll have a direct bolt in install.

i ordered a DDIN dash kit from Metra the 95-2001 kit.

Yep, that will get the job done!

I've been using an Xscorpion brand (never heard of it until I got ahold of it) model number GM-K3420, pulled it off a radio that I got in the salvage yard, and have really liked the way it assembles, but any of them should work just well so long as it's build for roughly 00-06ish GM double din radio installs. GM used the same basic radio sizing and install mounting points in TONS of cars, trucks, and SUV's in the early and mid 2000's, even into the later 2000's.
