First post: building a system from scratch
 

I have installed a PioneerCD player in my 1996 Blazer 2 dr 4wd, and after removing some plastic to make it slide in all the way, I'm happy with the deck.

To make a long story short, all of the speakers I was planning to install are no longer available to me, so I'm starting from scratch.

I'm on a tight budget, and want to keep everything in the factory locations.

MB Quart Formula FTA169 6 x 9" 3-Way Speaker System in the back

MB Quart Discus DKH116 6.5" 2-Way Coaxial Speaker in the doors.

maybe tweeters in the dash? maybe nothing up there?

I'm running a Pioneer Deh-1100Mp In-Dash Cd/Mp3/Wma Cd Receiver.

if you want tweeters in the dash, get components instead of coaxials

I agree with Bob, drop the 6.5 coaxials and buy a component set form MB Quarts for the doors/dash... it'll sound much better... but thats my opionion...

Pioneer makes some good decks, even the low end decks

I think I'm going to leave the stock front tweeters alone.

Has anyone else ever poked holes into their new speakers while replacing the door panels..... or am I the only one?

I swear I was being careful! Funny thing is my wife can't tell the difference.

BTW MT, thats a great looking blazer in your sig line. Mines looks the same, only black with stock five spoke rims. Finding this forum lets me know I'm not the only one to fall in love with this truck!

I want to ask what urban offroad means, but I'm afraid I think I already know.... I had a Firebird that seemed to spend an awful lot of time finding 'urban shortcuts' well off of the pavement. My Blazer hasn't helped to break that habit.

As for the low end Pioneer deck, I've had a great run of luck with them. They put out the performance I want, without being a big investment, or a high risk of theft. Plus it plays MP3 discs, which hold a ton of tunes.

I just put a brand new aux-in cassette deck in my summer car. Kids today are dumb, but not dumb enough to steal a tape deck.

i understand the stealing thing.. i had a nice system in my 97 cavalier and had my Pioneer radio stolen, my door speakers, and subs.. They did leave me the amps which were the most expensive part of the setuo

you could always put 4x6s in the dash... for highs and lows thats what I did

Yeah actually, the first time i installed speakers in my 97 cavalier i put the door panel right through the surround of my Pioneer speakers which caused it to sound like crap... i then decided to upgrade to some JL 4 inch coaxials.

Check out eBay for MBQuart speaker sets. My Jimmy is full MBQuart! Love it. I got this deal (Clicky) and they have not failed me at all.

I replaced my dash 4x6's with coaxial's and my 6 1/2's in the doors. But if my stereo would have been wired up to the rear 6x9's I would have probably gone with the component set mentioned above.

and I didnt cut my speakers when messing with the door panels, I did alot more of cutting my hands and fingertips from sliding them on the edge when trying to get it off haha. Who said you couldnt put blood and sweat into a speaker install.
