Default Horrible Reception

The stereo in my 95 has always had crappy reception. Stock and the aftermarket unit both. The connection is all good and what not. So anyone got any ideas?

I know on my radio it was like that and you really have to push the connector all the way in for the best signal, or you could just get an xm radio.... I love mine

Any other good advice on this, not a big fan of XM, has anyone changed the antenna and seen a good gain in reception.
