How to tell if speaker is blown

My passenger rear speaker doesn't work. I checked all connections behind radio and even respliced the wires(I put the stereo in myself) to that speaker. It worked before but now I don't even get a peep. Not even a crackle. I took the door panel off yesterday and looked at the speaker and the wires are still connected. Could it be blown? I always thought of speakers being blown making a crackle or static sound. Am I wrong?

Definitely sounds like a blown speaker to me. You could try swapping the speaker from the other side over to see if that one works. I had to do this on my sister's fiance's Alero the other day. No response from the passenger rear speaker. Swapped over the driver rear speaker and it worked. Dropped in two new 6x9's and away he went.

touch a nine volt battery to the leads for a brief moment. You will hear a pop or static if the speaker works, but do not leave it on there for more than an instant. Most speakers can handle 9vdc until the battery overheats but I wont guarantee it.

If it is blown (coils shot) it wont make a sound.

one time that happened to me, the problem was the magnet stuck to a rod in the trunk. so that could be a maybe

make sure the speaker is disconnected when you try this. Also, you should see the cone of the speaker move.
