To install amplifier or not?
 

I Changed out my stereo unit with a Kenwood kdc-258u unit and changed my door speakers front and back with Kenwood Kenwood KFC-1795PS.

When I turn the volume too loud sometimes I get bad distortion depending on the music and I wanna get rid of that. The RMS the stereo unit provides is similar to what the speakers can handle at max so I was wondering if I amplified it, would I get better Performance?

Also I wanna remove the front two dash Speakers too so I'd need a 4 way amplifier.

Worth all the work for wiring and stuff?

In my opinion, yes and always.

First of all, when I looked your speakers up they're listed as 80wrms. Even if that's both sides added together you're looking at 40wrms per side. The HU is only rated at 22wrms x 4 channels into 4 ohms. Not to mention the fact that HU's rarely, and I do mean RARELY ever output the power they are rated for. Adding an external amplifier improves not just output, the the speakers ability to handle dynamic peaks in the music. Basically they're going to sound better at every volume level than they do on the HU's internal amp.

Even if they are only rated at 40wrms per speaker, which I'm pretty sure it's not, I still wouldn't be afraid to get a 100wrms x 4 @ 4 ohm amplifier to power them with. The extra power is good for headroom, to keep from clipping/distorting them so badly on those dynamic peaks. It used to be built into amplifiers which is one reason they used to cost so much. Now it's easier and typically cheaper to just buy a bigger amp to get the headroom than to buy an amp that is designed and manufactured with it.

Another thing that would really help with the sound and output you're getting is to sound deaden at least the doors of your truck. The difference sound deadening makes is absolutely amazing and well worth the added cost. Do a little at a time over time and it won't be such a shock to the wallet. Also building and using a good strong wooden baffle instead of the flimsy plastic factory ones makes a huge difference as well.
