Looking for some more kick

At the moment I have 2 10" selenium subs and a 700 watt amp in a ported box. I have 2 spare 10" pyle subs sitting in my house, so I was trying to figure out what I could do with them.

I was thinking either building a custom enclosure to hold the 4 10"s (not sure how I'd place them yet),

or

selling the 2 pyles and buying a 12", custom building an enclosure for the 12" and the 2 10" seleniums.

Which would give me the best sound, and what any suggestions on the type of box? Obviously i'd need to get a stronger amp too, was thinking around a 1400 or 1500 watt, but just these 2 10's aren't doing it for me right now.

My third choice was to sell the 2 pyles, as well as selling my current box + amp + 2 seleniums and just getting a new box/amp with 2 12"s. Would that be the best/easiest solution?

If you couldn't tell, I'm fairly new to the sub world, so go easy on me ;)

they are Pyle brand? Well that is your problem right there. I would sell all 4 of those subs and buy 1 really nice 12" (dayton HO for instance - About $150). That will solve your problem - unless ofcourse your amp is of low quality as well.

Also, the term "kick" is normally referencing the upper low bass/lower midrange area of the spectrum. Id say around 110-150Hz. From reading your post, it sounds like you want more boom than kick. Am I correct?

You're right, I meant boom..as I said, I'm new to the sub world :P

2 of them are seleniums (the ones I have in at the moment), the other 2 are pyles, which are sitting in a box in my house.

So you think I should just get 1 good 12" with a stronger amp rather than 2 decent 12"s?

My current amp is only about 700w, I don't remember the brand. I'd probably need to get a 1200 or 1400 for a couple 12"s right?

Well if you can afford 2 dayton HOs with a nice amp, then by all means! But, if you cant, a single dayton 12" will be just fine in the proper enclosure.

What kind of enclosure do you recommend? A ported box?

I may just go with 1 of the daytons then, as I could keep my current amp then (700w amp, and the Dayton HO has a max of 700w :D). This 1 dayton would blow away my 2 10" seleniums, right?

Everything I've read about them says they are real crisp, good subs and they have a wide hz range too. Found them here and they have a nice price on it from what I've seen.

I've been looking into jus building a custom enclosure since it'd be cheaper, so I'd just need to measure out the proper volume of it. Is it easy enough to do? I'm experienced in woodworking and have all of the tools, as well as ways to map out the box before I start building it for the measurements and what-not, so that shouldn't be a problem to actually build.

Rule #1 of all speakers/amps - NEVER look at max ratings. ALWAYS use the RMS or constant power ratings.

What brand/model amp is it?

I cant say for certain that it will "blow" your 2 10"s away, but I can guarantee that you will be happy with it. A ported enclosure to recommended specs is your optimum enclosure.

how can you guarantee that??

and thats the optimum enclosure based on what vehicle?

tell you wat. Lanzar is a great starter brand as far as i am concerned. Also Crunch and Hifonics. If you look around you can get 4 Lanzar 12" 1200 watt (600 rms) subs, and an Autotek A/B class 1 ohm stable 1500 rms amp total for about 500 bux shipped. i installed this setup at my shop in a astro van and it had the windows bowing hard and the doors shaking. but as mentioned before - get a good amp. I would say spend it all on a great amp then get speakers later. onlincecarstereo.com has some good deals and free shipping after u spend $100.
