Most likely its simply because the aftermarket headunit would provide more watts per speaker and thats why you see the change in tone after replacing the head unit. Just my guess though...

I'm not talking about the head unit... if you run factory speakers on an after market head unit, you don't have to turn the volume up as much on the head unit for the speakers to get loud...

When using aftermarket speakers, to get the same loudness out of the speakers, you need to turn the head unit up a lot more.

volume could also increase in larger increments on the stock headunit. I can turn everything up to 75-80% before i hear distortion, just from my speakers......I'm yet to hear distortion from my subs.

crunch is doing a lot better. They are getting a better reputation.

Blazinloud - you realize that Crunch is Made by Maxxsonics - who makes AutoTek, Hifonics, and MB Quart right???
While that saying is true, its also true that Ford makes Mustangs Rangers and Aspires.

True enough they are made by the same company they dont get the same level of quality or output due in large part to cost effectiveness.

OP the mono block amp would be best served in a dual enclosure or a quad of some sort. (8's, 10's.possible combination.) Wired correctly even the triple would work I guess its a personal choice due to box designs. PA Amp

would give you what would make you happy for the price on ebay. However shop around you might find a better price elswhere. This is an example only some folks dont like PA... I've never had a problem with their eqpt.
BAD AMP

This is an example of what not to get. They are not very specific in what its capable of. All I see is that its capable of being 2ohm stable. I see nothing about rms nor have I heard of the company. It could possible only push 400w @ 2ohms. It might possibly suck altogether.

So by your logic, a mono amp isn't as goodunless you have more than one sub?Doesn't seem right to me...
Mono amps have a much better x-over setting for subs an most 2+ channel amps I've seen... Besides, some mono amps only put out 350W RMS... Which is just right for a sub with an RMS of 300 watts...

Are you saying I'd have been better off with a 2 channel amp that's 150 - 175WRMS per channel, and bridge it to 300 - 350W?

Personally, I think if you have a sub, it should be powered by a mono amp, but that's just me... My opinion might be misguided :p

DrPerry:

I apologize for not clarifying. Some how I'd gotten it in my head while reading this thread the original poster was asking which would be better for a multi speaker setup. You are ofcourse correct that a single sub and a mono amp would be the most effecient combination given the sub is rated for the power/ohm level of the amp. I was merely giving advice based on a mono amp vs dual channel amp for a multi speaker sub system. I too would choose a mono amp over a dual or even 4 channel amp to drive any subs. While you can doit that way,(usemulti channel amp)its easier and infinatelyless troublew/a quality mono amp.

I have a Bazooka BA2150HCmono block class d 1000w amp pushing 2 Kicker CRV 12" subs and it sounds good for the price that I paid for it.My subs are at 4 ohms so I'm not getting the full 1000w more like 300 per sub.I've heard it go both ways, some prefer mono's others muti channels, I guess it depends on the system and the quality desired. I personally am going to upgrade from a mono to a 2 channel Kicker 1000.2 but thats only because it sounds better than the mono block 1000 that I have now.

i had a crunch amp, it worked great, dont remember the m/n but i liked it alot rock soild, till one day it just quit, i think it was my fault, i burned up two subs on it (my fault) and i think that is y it died. it was also in two diffrent cars. up untill then it was great tho i would try them again.

RE: Mono block amp or 2 channel amp?

while I have never cared for bazooka ANYTHING, for their price they are ok if your not competing or trying to impress anyone. They can be equated to Rockwood/Dual amps. The kicker 1000.2 is a MUCH better amp.

Hillbilly thank you for fixing my long links and if you would pm me as to how they can be done like yours on this board I will keep them that way in the future.
