My Blazer build

I just picked up a 98 Blazer on Saturday (July 7) and am in the process of installing a little bit of stereo equipment. Being a bass head since the early to mid 90s, I figure, why not.

My head unit is a JVC with Bluetooth and front and rear USB ports. I have Pioneer 2 way 6.5s in the doors. I have 4 gauge power wire running from an Optima red top under the hood to an Optima blue top in the rear. I'll be installing 2 Rockford Fosgate 15s in a HUGE (8 cubic foot slot port box) this weekend, hopefully. I'll post pics when the box building starts.

Just a quick update, I haven't started working on the box yet, but here is a pic of the box I'll be building. I'm not going to use 1 inch MDF, I'll probably just go with 3/4 since my woofers aren't super heavy.

Should be around 8 cubic feet. I can't wait to hear this beast in action.

looks good bro

Plans have changed. I'm not building that box, since I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with 2 or 4 woofers. Don't want to spend the money to build that box only to swap it out. So, I'll keep people posted on what happens. HOPING to do some work this weekend. The last of my wiring should be in today.

Looks really good. How did you get started in this? I'm planning on building a ported box but I have no idea where to start and how to design it.

8 cubic feet is way to big for 2 15s dude...you would be better off with 4 12s in an 8 cube box. if you want 2 15s I would recommend 6 cubes. Also upgrade to 1/0 from your front to rear run of power wire. It will help out alot

Here are a couple pics of my setup. Still need to tweak the port, tune the door speakers and build an amp rack to hide the wiring.

And 4g wire is powering the amp or amps? definitely upgrade that man. I would run 1/0g.

Oh that was already said... I have a single Alpine PDX-5 that i am powering with 0g welding cable. dont skimp on the power or ground wires.

I really liked the build of the enclosure you first posted. Very solidly built and the design looked good as well. 8cuft isn't too large for a pair of 15's as long as that size and the tuning fit the given response you're going for or in a more basic way of putting it are within the manufacturers specifications. It all depends on the T/S parameters of the driver as to what size enclosure best suits it for a given application.

You didn't mention what size the enclosure in the pictures is but one issue I see right away is that it definitely needs more port area. Unless those subs have a little higher efficiency and a fairly low xmax then port noise and enclosure efficiency are being affected. Or so it would seem by the pics anyway.

It is a clean enclosure and install tho. I look forward to seeing where it goes as it grows and developes!

The first enclosure was around 8 cubes as well. I didn't use that design because the Rockford woofers don't require such a beefy box design. I may be swapping out this setup, I've had a few people ask me if I'd sell what I have, so I may do that and get some new 15s and a couple new amps. If that setup goes thru, I'll definitely upgrade to 0 gauge wire. The amps I have now, 1 is a 2 channel (900 watts) the 4 channel (260 watts), 4 gauge is fine.

The setup I'm looking at is 2 American Bass XFL woofers and a 2 and 4 channel American or Audiopipe amp. Either way, I'll be pushing about 3500-4000 watts for bass and probably 400 to 600 for mid and tweet.

I'll keep everyone posted on what route I decide to go.
