Need Help - Best Place for Constant 12V+ and Switched 12V+.

All,

Need a little help.

I've gone thru the sticky on Stereo Wiring and Install Parts didn't really find a concise answer.

My rig is a '97 4dr 4wd.

While in the process of replacing the Ignition Switch I came across a previous owner's attempt at wiring a Panasonic head unit.

He/she tapped into the Ignition Switch Harness 12V+ the large red wire, and also tapped into the 12V+ white wire of the same harness which is designated Secondary Ignition.

In addition to not following color coding in several places the previous installer has twisted pairs of smaller gauge wire to make a larger gauge wire.

I would like to correct a few of the previous owner's wiring "techniques".

My immediate need is;

Where is the best place(s) to connect to the Constant 12V+ and Switched 12V+ voltages other than the Ignition Switch Harness?

Thanks in advance.
Al

If you're doing this for your radio, you should have those coming from the factory harness unless that's been removed.

lazyboyjake.

Since I don't want to cause any more problems before I get the truck running, I've opted to install the new Ignition Harness without tapping it to see if these taps are really being used.

If the radio doesn't work I'll temporarily tap them, and hook up the radio properly at a later date if the original OEM connector is still there.

Update:

The new Ignition Harness is in without taps.

I've left the 2 wires that were hooked to the harness off.
The 2 wires are black taped, and dangling at the moment.

Truck starts. Runs good.
Radio works. It's apparently installed correctly.

But, there is a small LED light on Headlight Control Panel that is not blinking anymore. I never was sure what that light was for. It use to blink about every second or two.

I guess I'll check that out now.

Thanks.
Al

All,

Final update:

Wedged way up under the dash I found an aftermarket Keyless/Alarm System.

Will correct previous owner's wiring "techniques" and button her up.

My radio and overhead display won't turn on unless I have the constant power and switched power wires together, does anyone have any idea which fuse this would be ?
