new amp, road noise??
 

Hey guys,
I just installed a kicker 200.2 amp to power my mids and highs and I'm getting this god awful whinning noise through my speakers. I have yet to replace my stock speakers but I do plan on it soon. Could this be a problem? I was also thinking about shortening my ground wire. I dont know why, but it seems like a good idea. What do you think?

first off, make sure your ground is very good. What kind of radio??? first thought is Pioneer.

1ft or shorter ground.
reground different spot to clean metal and a o-ring terminal
make sure ground and power wire is the same size if not ground is bigger

Nope, have not been to school for car audio at all.

The head unit is a Panasonic. The weird thing is that I have used the same ground in the past for my subs and never had this problem. Both power and ground are 8 guage. The ground wire is about 2 ft in length, I'll try and shorten it and see how that goes. Thanks for your help guys.

bad rca's, (did you accidently touch the leads together when moving to new amp???),
could be the amp.

did you have the interior speakers amped before???

If after you shorten your ground and it still doesn't work out, try taking a short piece of remote wire or something similar and grounding the outside ring of your rca's. Sometimes this helps with road noise. Or are your power and rca's ran on the same side of the vehicle?

yea, grounding rca's will sometimes help, but the myth of power and ground ran together is just that, a myth. I have experimented with that quite a bit, never picked up anything noticable.

no power and ground together wont do anything but if rca's and power are ran next to each other, it could cause an imbalance if you have unstable rca's. ive seen it happen multiple times

yea, I meant power and signal, but I had 4 runs of 1/0 gauge run next to an 8 year old set of Rockford RCA'sl and there was no signal transfer. but yea, better safe than sorry!!
