no power from hot wire ???

I posted this in lighting and electrical and didn't get any help so I figured if I post it here I may actually get at least 1 reply ... A friend of mine who has installed cd players in other cars before without any issues said he would install mine for me told me it would take about 30 - 45 minutes since we are doing it without the harness so I helped him and we removed the stock delco radio and got all the wires stripped and ready to go I tested the hot wire and it was getting power ( I used a voltmeter ) we started late that day so we had to resume the next day we went out and now the hot wire is getting no power? I replaced a 15 amp fuse it was the only fuse that was blown I checked every other fuse in the car, I am not sure why I am not getting power now? also my dome light, trunk release, and cigarette lighter outlet aren't working either if anyone has any ideas on why I am not getting power please let me know I drive the truck everyday just fine I even tested the voltmeter on my battery and it said I was getting no power but I try my neighbors 85' S10 blazer and he gets power I am just confused and would appreciate some help

Did you check the radio fuse? Also which "hot" wire are you checking? The yellow? Honestly i would of gotten the harness...its like $10 and makes life much easier

I agree! Get the wire harness, makes life so much easier. All you have to do is color match wires.

And I don't understand what you mean when you say, you hook your volt meter to your battery and you get no power? Is your battery dead? And if you left the "hot" wire stripped and laying in the dash, if it touched metal, it may have burned up the wire and any other wire on that circuit. Time to do some hunting.

what people do to save a few bucks... then it just backfires.

Check all the fuses

Wiring gremlins suck! I'm not sure why ANYONE would cut the stock wiring harness on ANYTHING! Then you have to splice and hope you get the right wiring. Good luck

Based on other things going out at once as well, I'd check the fuse box again. Make sure the right fuses are being used and they are all working.

I have checked all the fuses they are all good the only one that blew was the dome light and I already replaced it and honestly it wasn't a matter of saving money it was just my impatience I didn't want to wait for a harness .. either way I already got it figured out I just chalk it up to a lesson learned on my part
