RE: PORT HOLE??!?!
There are lots of pros and cons to porting vs. sealed enclosures. Pros to sealed: More effecient in a smaller package. Sealed boxes allow the sub to produce tighter responses to bass and less chance of over excursion. Plus you dont have to put to much consideration to tuning the box.
Pros to ported. Louder. Especially if the ports are tuned correctly, A ported box sub can hit far lower than a sealed, but the flip side to this is that the boxes are larger and the sub requires more amp energy to do this. I had two JL 12w6v2's in a sealed enclosure for quite some time. I eventually built a slot-ported box for one sub and ran that for a while. That one ported sub on a JL 1000watt amp blew the pair of em sealed out of the water. Huge difference. But again, I was able to power two subs on that single 1000watt amp in the sealed enclosure. Trying to put both of them ported on that same amp would not gain similar results. I would have to double up the amps. Again I restate that in my opinion, sealed boxes hit more accurately than a ported. Maybe someone here with more techincal know how can shed more light on this... But I Listen to rock and roll mostly... the ported box setup added too much bass to the music. It was better suited for hip-hop and such. In other words.. it made my music sound a bit too muddy. But throw in some Dre or something like that.. and it was phenomenal. Hope this helps. |
RE: PORT HOLE??!?!
his box is really 9cuft he meant 32 hz

RE: PORT HOLE??!?!
The answer is in the TS parameters of your subs.

In my opinion it really depend on what music you listen too. With a ported box you'll get lower & louder which is the goal of Rap, Hip Hop, Club, Techno. With the sealed box is quieter and more clarified so Heavy Metal, Classic rock things that don't put a lot of emphasis on heavy bass will sound better.
