Question about ohms

So my question is, what effect does say running .5 ohms over 8ohms have. Less resistance=more power from what I can tell but what other difference does it make? Souind quality? Volume? anything?

To put it simple. You Will gain more power from your amp by dropping your ohm load down.

Like if I were to run my amp at 4 ohms. I would get 1000 watts.

If i drop the ohm load down to 2 ohms I will see 1700 watts.

and 1 ohm I get 2500 watts.

Now for .5 ohms you have to be careful. make sure your amp can run there daily (safely) There are only a few amps that can run here daily. When you bring it down this low its more of a strain on the amp itself. So basically you can burn it up faster. Most amps will throw right into protect mode if you dip below 1 ohm.

Just basically make sure you wire it right cause you very well end up at .17 ohms thinking your at .5 and fry ur stereo to all hell

Orion 2500D can handle it on tone bursts and still be fine for daily when u wire it back to .5 lol

I was just curious on what other effects it had besides more power from your amp. I'm basically going to be running the same setup as I have now just new amp and sub wired the same way. 2ch amp bridged at 4ohms running to a single 4 ohm sub.

i dunno if its true, but I heard sq rises with a higher ohm load. "cleaner" power perhaps [:-]

I concur, with lower resistance brings more distortion, unless you are playing around with Zapco or other high end amps.
