Questions on Speakers
Alright so I see where you guys say that the dash speaker is a 4x6 so I opened mine up the other day and its a tweeter, not a 4x6. Then I measured the door speakers and they came out to 6 inches which means a 5 1/4 will be too small. How about a 6 1/2? And also are the 4 door speakers the same size because they appear to be. I plan on upgrading the 4 door speakers with something slightly better than factory. I dont want to spend much and I saw pioneer sells a 2 channel 6 1/2, has anyone had any luck with these?
thanks |
RE: Questions on Speakers
I suppose I have another question on top of that. Should I stay away from speakers that are 4 ohm because I plan on running the factory hu. Im adding 1 10" a 400 watt amp, then my plans are the 4 speakers.

RE: Questions on Speakers
ok well the tweeter in the dash is correct.. but the mounting bracket for it is 4x6... and the door speakers r 6 1/2.... and mostly all speakers r 4 ohm.... they will all still work with ur factory head unit

RE: Questions on Speakers
The factory HU actually sounds pretty decent if youre using a sub with it. The mids and highs are great, but it runs out of juice at really low levels with the bass up. Dash speakers = 4x6 regardless of what's in there. Door speakers are 6 1/2", again, regardless of what's in there.:)
To add to this.... the factory head unit will DEAFEN you with efficient speakers in the truck. Its that loud, but without a sub, it's just mids and highs at that volume. The 6 1/2s won't produce enough bass to make up for having to have the bass at half at that volume. With a sub, though, itll be insanely loud. I have no idea why itll go that loud, but it will... the factory speakers are very inefficient and cheaply made, therefore they don't sound good and are quiet. |
RE: Questions on Speakers
My personal advice is to stay away from Pioneer. Their HU suck because they dont block low low bass from going to the component speakers...and their amps are crap. Mine is "800" watt yet it only has two 30 watt fuses which means its only got 600 watt's of actual power. It is also shorting out...I have to reach to the back of the car and hit it all the time because it turns off. No it's not because its hooked up wrong or anything...the connections on the inside of the amp are coming apart.

RE: Questions on Speakers
actually to add the the pioneer idea... i wouldn't buy anything for car audiou can buy at walmart... if u can get it at walmart it is cheaply made... if u wanna buy from a chain of retail stores atleast goto best buy or curcuit city and get ur speakers or HU there

RE: Questions on Speakers
Everythings on its way. Im trying to keep a cheap system thats all around good. Heres what I have. for the 6 1/2" speakers Kenwood 3 ways. They produce good highs and mids, but theirs alack in the bass, which thats where the subs play in. I have a 10" JL in a stealth box ran by a pioneer 400 watt amp. Then I got a rockford fosgate amp wiring kit. Everything for around $350.
I would lke to comment on what you said PABlazer. You said if it comes from walmart dont buy it but they are the same products as everyone else. Go to best buy and then run to walmart and notice the items are like 20 dollars difference. I ordered most my stuff from crunchfield. They were the cheapest surprisingly plus over going to best buy I didnt have sales tax, I saved like 25 a speaker, I got the harness connectors free versus spending 24 at walmart. Id reccoment crunchfield, I never liked them all too much but I had a good experience with them. I wanted to put the Alpine Type S in but they told me they wouldnt fit, so I took my second choice. I thought about those blaqpunts. I probably spelled that wrong but I thought about those but truthfully I dont know the brand very well although it got good ratings. I suppose im waiting on goodies now, I sure hope ill be pleased. Thanks for the advice guys |
RE: Questions on Speakers
i no u can get the same things at walmart that u can at best buy... but walmart carrys the lowest end of car audio... now crutchfield on the other had is a great choice on where to buy from... they r great with everything... if u have a problem with ur install u can call them and they will help u threw the problem... but good choice on ur speakers too... if i were to do another system i would do kenwood..

RE: Questions on Speakers
I wanted to do that blankpunt, but the bass is more than I wanted out of a speaker, I rather get a clear high and mid. Really alpines are where its at I believe. The guy told me it wouldnt clear though. Tha alpinetype S speakers were 49 a pair and the Kenwoodswere also 49 a pair. So were talking about cheaper stuff.I had 4 alpine type R's an a 4 channel alpine amp ran by a keenwood head unit in my 1995 stang. It was a good set up, absolutely no complaints.

RE: Questions on Speakers
i have found that kenwood is a good product i have had it in every truck i own and it is grate and if any one is thinking a bout geting a pioner speker dont they do not hold up and they do not put out any sound if you want to upgrade it is the best idea to just put down the money and get a good brand speker it is worth it
