Replacing the aftermarket with the original
 

My aftermarket radio/cd player died recently, and I was just going to put the stock radio back in for now. First off, is there a way to clearly determine the aftermarket is truly dead (i.e. can I take it somewhere and have them plug it in?). I made sure all of my connections were good, there was power and/or continuity where there needed to be, checked the fuses but I wanted to double check it was the deck first. Secondly, I no longer have the plug that goes into the stock radio. I would really like to find an adapter that goes from the aftermarket plug to the stock directly, but I think that might be asking too much. So are there plugs that are easy to find and inexpensive or would the junkyard be the best place to go?

Not sure on how to check the aftermarket unit, but changing back to stock is simple and you can get the plug at just about any autoparts store or even wally world.

To check it, you can go to any local Audio shop (Not a Chain company ie, Best Buy, Circuit City) and have them test it. They did it for me. All they do is hook up grounds and power and see if anything turn on.

you can make your own home test with a old PC power supply and some wire cutters. but the only thing you can check is the fuse on the head unit and in the fuse panel.

Get a plug from a junkyard for cheap if you have a u-pull it parts.
