I'm not an expert on both but I would assume it could be both but more than likely your speaker is going out.

I figure it's either one of two things. Either;
A. You're speaker wire is loose and causing to move with the air pressure of the speaker making it cut in and out. Or

B. One of the speakers tinsel leads, (The wire that goes from the wire terminals to the cone of the speaker), has come loose and is causing it to cut in and out. I had a sub do this once. If it cut out, and you moved the loose tensil lead around, or pushed gently on the cone it would work agian and then cut out and on etc etc.

I would say it's deffinantly that perticular speaker that is the problem. Hopefully it's just a loose wire on the terminal or into the harness if it's a factory speaker. But if the speaker needs replaced, either hit a salvage yard for a OE replacement, or just replace them all with a aftermarket CD player and be amazed at the diffrence, lol :).

Good luck.
