Strapping 2 1000w amps

So I have 2 12" Alpine Type-R's, 1500w each. I've been running a 1000w Cadence amp on them since I installed the subs a while ago, and the amp definitely powers those bad boys. They're LOUD, but I bought 2 1000w amps thinking I might need both, but didn't install the other amp since I figured it might be too much for the alt/battery. I've had this amp sitting in my house the entire time, not being used, and now I'm thinking why not strap both 1000w amps together. Would 2 1000w amps be too much for the subs, battery or alternator? I figured one day I strapped them for a while just to see what happens. Any ideas on if this is a bad idea?

are you sure the amps are strapable? Not all amps are. they have to be specifically made to do that. Personally, I would just run one amp to each sub. 2000RMS is a bit on a stock charging system. I would definitely look into upgrading the alt.

2000 watts&12 volts= 80-85 amps. i dont have a calc with me and i dont feel like thinking. its like 9 am. stock alt might be ok, but i;d upgrade

x2 on this...its just as easy to run an amp to each sub. strapping can get complicated especially if both amps are not set exact. Bad things happen lol.

Running 1 amp to each sub is definitely a good idea, I'll consider doing it with the stock alt just to see how it holds. I believe when someone referred these amps to me they said they can be strapped.

My amps are strapped and the master amp has all the controls on it. So I set one amp and it does both. You could also get a maxlink if they aren't strapable.

x2 on the alt, at least get a fat battery to throw in the back, and dont blast too much while idling without the alt

Haha yeah, I try not to run the subs at all while idle

Strapping Amps: Strapping is basically joining two monoblock amps together to make one super big amp. Note that not all amplifiers can be strapped. Basically it is like bridging two amplifiers together, so taking the positive from one amp, and the negative from the other. There is a master and a slave amp, the master receives the RCA’s from the H/U and the slave receives from the master…there are switches on them to set what is master and what it slave...there are some amps that rent able to be strapped, but strapping modules can be bought…such as a Crossfire VR2000, but modules such as these can be very hard to come by. Also remember to continually check power going to amps, as strapping can draw a lot more current then you think
