Tablet Mounting Solution
 

Has anyone ever came up with a clever solution to mount a tablet onto the dash of an S10 Blazer? Not necessarily IN the dash, but just basically floating in front of the radio on the dash so it's somewhat easily removable but still sturdy enough to stay put and not wiggle around like crazy. I have working steering wheel controls so I don't have to worry about direct access to the volume and skip buttons on the radio face, so covering them up isn't too big of a deal. I've been using my phone and just bluetoothing to my aftermarket Pioneer radio for music, have a 7" tablet sitting around that I'm not using for anything, and just thought it would be neat to have it mounted in the truck and use it instead of my phone all the time. I have some extra GoPro mounting bracketry sitting around and thought I could maybe use some of it, just haven't tried experimenting too much with it yet, but would honestly almost rather have something made of metal/aluminum so it's a little more sturdy.

But you said you do not want it to be in dash, and that would require fab work.

Yeah I'm trying to fab up something that will sort of clamp into place. I'm working on an assembly now made from aluminum that I have laying around that holds the tablet securely, then I'll work on making it hold to the dash.

BTW I'm a soundman youtube subscirber, I watch all the Amplified shows ;) not only is he hilarious, he does pretty good work too

Well I think I've slapped together a pretty basic but effective mount :) Made from aluminum stock riveted together and some short pieces of pine for a pressure fit into the pocket under the single din radio. Need to put the finishing touches on it, but it's solid and works great! Still have access to the HVAC controls and is quickly removable. The tablet is held in with a magnetic holder (although the frame holds the weight of the tablet; the magnet just holds it to the frame), and with a little wiggling the entire assembly pulls out, although it takes more force than road vibrations so it shouldn't work itself out while driving.
