When do you need to upgrade the electrical System?
I am debating on upgrading my current system, and would like to know when I would need to upgrade the Alternator/Wiring etc.
Thanks in advance. |
When you pull more current than your current electrical system can handle/put out...
|
How Do I figure out how much that would be? I'm only pullin about 600 watts for my subs right now, and what I'm eyeballin would be about 4k watts.

I would at minimum upgrade your main ground wire.
seeing as your amp power wire is probably heavier then the wire that grounds your entire truck.. |
4kW is definitely beyond what your truck can provide stock. With 4kW you would need to upgrade the Big Three, alternator and/or extra batteries. If you want bare minimum though, I would install the system, upgrade the big three, and maybe add a battery and see if you still get significant voltage drop, if so, an alternator or two is in order. 4kW is a lot of power man.

Thought so.
Thanks For the advice guys. |
what exactly do you plan on running that's "4000 watts"?
|
I was going to run 4 of these with a Lanzar 4K watt amp.

yeah i would't do that........ that is cheap flea market stuff honestly. probably puts out maybe 1/4 of rated power if you're lucky.

pyramid... HA. no offence, save your money and get one or 2 GOOD 12"s and it will be louder/clearer...
the main power wire to your truck isn't as important as you are running a seperate one to the amp. main thing is upgrading your ground and alternator wire. there is a cheap (compared to the 'high output' aftermarket ones) that put out 200+ amps, which is roughly 2600 watts. I will see if I can track it down. 18"s are not good for listening, just spl. can't hit tight bass notes at all. |
