2020 3.6 LT2 Blazer
 
AC compressor on my 2020 Blazer (3.6 LT2 8,835 miles) locked up today. AC was pretty much on full blast today given the fact it was 106F outside today in southwest Oklahoma. Leaving the parking lot and all of a sudden heard a grinding noise followed by a disruption in cold air. Just curious if anyone on here owns one of these and has had a similar issue? (Yeah it’s got factory warranty but I bought the car brand new 3 months ago with 20 something miles on it and already experiencing issues.)

That's not good to hear. I would be going back to dealer and demanding them to fix at no cost with a rental during repairs....


that's way to new for those kind of problems...

other then that, maybe go to a shop, but that'll void the warranty...

yeah happened at 5pm and got it back to the Chevy dealer right before they closed and they put me in a courtesy car until they can get it fixed but just hoping I didn’t pay big money for that car only to have to get into the whole lemon law nightmare

I hear you... but thankfully, if I'm thinking correctly, it's not related to the inner engine function, so shouldn't be too bad....

best of luck, not many new blazers on the forum, but always good to hear about issues... well, "good", I should say...

First, welcome to the Blazer Forum.

Just make sure you follow the warranty procedures. No touching by some shop except for the Chevy dealer. Then they will replace. Make sure a new warranty is issued to all the replaced parts.

Apart from that I'd not worry too much about a single instance. Especially if it brakes within 20 miles. That I would consider DOD (dead on delivery). Can happen. Better now than 1 day past the warranty.

Ask the dealership if there are service letters out for your Blazer, usually if i.e. the AC is a real problem, they will know.

Not sure this is the “appropriate” section seeing how it’s not a TrailBlazer. Those were released as 2021 models and they are half the price.

I am aware they will “replace” the AC compressor but that’s not my point, and “replacing” a defective part is not always solving the problem.

Seeing component failures after 3 months of use and 8,800 miles can’t be normal by any means and it wasn’t dead on delivery. And if the AC compressor failed so soon how long before other components fail?

The Chevy dealership was in disbelief that it failed so soon. They have sold LOTS of new blazers in this area and this one is the first one to experience that issue, BUT how many more are going to experience it?

Just sharing my experience, and looking for similar instances out there....

Stuff happens. Parts fail for no apparent reason. That's why warranties exist. I doubt that's a new compressor design, developed specifically for the Blazer. It's probably the same basic compressor that's being successfully used in a hundred other cars.

It sounds like the dealership is taking good care of you. Roll with it. It's way too early to be talking Lemon Law.

BTW, the replacement parts are covered under the same warranty as the failed ones. There is no "new" warranty on them.

This just happened to my 2020 Chevy Blazer today at 11,014 miles. What did the dealership end up doing with yours? I’m hoping to get mine in the shop soon. It also blew my 350 fuse! It made the same noise and everything. Now my AC isn’t blowing cool air and the belt is smoking.
