This thread will chronicle my Blazer getting back to it's glory!

It's a 1989 V10(K5) Blazer, 350 converted from TBI to Carburetor, Edelbrock 1805 650cfm Thunder Series AVS carburetor, Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake, older carb heads, 700r4, Np241, 10 bolts F/R, 33x12.5 BFG Mud Terrains, New A/C components, new wheel bearings and front pads, new Mile Marker hubs, new front and rear brake hoses, new rear shoes and shoe hardware, new starter, I also got the stock Aluminum wheels with the Blazer.

Story I got from the guy I traded was that he was pulling a buddy of his out of snow who's truck was buried past the axles and heard a pop, then didn't have 4 wheel drive, said the chain popped in the case. I've gone over everything with a find toothed comb, these hubs were installed AFTER that happened, they wouldn't lock the drive shaft in in 2H.. I took them apart this morning and they were too greasy and weren't engaging, wiped the globbed grease up and re-installed them and voila they started locking in, spun my driveshaft and it locked with the hubs finally, grabbed the transfer case side of the shaft and went to spin it the other way and the driveshaft is spinning on the splined slip joint... that's the pop the guy heard and explains the lack of 4wd.. the Case shifts fine through all modes, and locks the driveshaft in 4H and 4L so I don't believe the chain is the issue. I now need to find a driveshaft for my Blazer.

After I got it last Monday I set out to find out why it dieseled/had engine run on when the key was shut off. I discovered that it has older non-TBI heads but was running TBI plugs and gapped at .35".. so when I got paid Friday I bought two new rear u-joints, 8 new Delco R45TS plugs(NOT the CR43TS that was in the engine), gapped them .45", new wires and new Cap and Rotor. I also moved the vacuum advance from ported vacuum on the carburetor to full manifold vacuum, it's a little trick that can be done to carbureted vehicles, basically makes it pull advance at idle instead of higher in the RPM band and gives it more bottom end cause of that. Once that was all said and done it now runs like a raped ape! No more Dieseling and it runs way better! I also dumped 1/3 of a can of Seafoam down the booster line before the plug change... lets just say it looked like someone spraying for mosquitoes after that was all said and done.... lol

Saturday I took my rear driveshaft out after work and borrowed a Ball Joint Press/U-Joint Press, I tell you, easiest U-Joint replacement I've ever done, except on one of the bolts the wrench decided to round the head off.. so I cut it halfway through then got this hair brained idea to roll the truck forward a little to where I could get a socket on the bolt and it came right out despite being cut in half... So after I got the shaft out and the old joints pressed out, I cleaned the driveshaft up, yesterday I bought a new strap and bolt kit and after work I pressed my new joints in, again easiest I've ever done! Got the shaft back in and no more loud popping in gear and no more popping when I let off the gas pedal or get back on it!

Next job is gonna be to pull my intake and re-seal it as it's leaking oil on my intake and I think the intake may be sucking air a little, I'm gonna paint it while it's off, and I'm also gonna get a set of the Edelbrock Black Crinkle valve covers and new valve cover gaskets, and an Edelbrock Black Crinkle Air Cleaner, and I gotta flush the transmission and change the filter, the fluid is at that "Change me" color.

Anyway, I'll post updates in this thread as I do stuff to it, it's gonna need pretty much every gasket on the engine replaced, a new flexplate, a new front transmission seal, and the gears replaced in the rearend eventually.

The stickers are off on the driverside and I'm fixing to peel the 3 sticker off on the passengerside then it'll be de-stickered. I still like Dale Earnhardt after all these years after his death, but his number doesn't belong on this Blazer!
