1998 ZR2 Blazer Build
 

Hey guys, well I have been looking at these forums for a while now while I built up my blazer, so I figured it was finally time to post a build thread. I have already done a lot of work to the truck so I will explain and post pictures of the changes and I have many more things planned to keep this thread going.

I started with a bone stock 1998 Blazer ZR2 with a little over 194,000 miles, I couldn't pass it up for $1000. The entire frame and suspension was covered in rust so I wire brushed it off and gave the underside a coat of primer and black paint. Next I did the shackles and t-bar crank lift. The paint on the body was also horrible, like falling off bad, so I resprayed it with some gloss black paint and blacked it out. After that I added little things like the summit racing visor, a K&N air filter, and a bullbar with lights (which is welded to the frame, not those flimsy brackets it comes with.) I added a flowmaster 40 series muffler and 35% tint on the front windows aswell. I also had to replace all the ball joints and tie rods as those were beyond destroyed.

Now I plan on getting a 2in body lift and 32x11.5 tires but I'm not 100% sure about the body lift. Im sure I could fit the tires without the bl and then I wouldn't have to deal with the ugly gaps. What do you guys think?

I had the same problem, it had to do with the size of the pictures which have to be Maximum File Size per Picture97.7 KBMaximum Picture Dimensions600 by 600 Pixels

Just use this if they are too big Resize Images online

Thanks! Yeah thats the size I have on it right now. The ZR2's are like 2 or 3 inches higher than a regular blazer stock, plus my 2 inch shackle and tbar lift, so I should be able to fit 32's now with a little trimming, I will be able to for sure with the 2in body lift but I'm not so sure I want that yet. Opinions on body lifts?

IMHO i hated my body lifted it just didnt look right, now if you do a body lift and put rock sliders on (not step bars or nerf bars!) it would look nice and make the frame show a tad less. but most of everyone is running a body lift. i just dont care much for them, sucks that they dont make a 1'' body lift id run that

I love my body lift, easy way to lift it without altering suspension. Its a 2 inch Performance accessories lift. Also makes it easier to work on components underneath too, took about 8 hours ish to complete, you can already see the frame without it and that doesn't really bother me that much anyway, you should try an add aleaf to get the rear up too, sweet looking blazer!

I agree Carrico4, thats why I was unsure of the body lift. It's just so easy and cheap. Thanks 05BlackJimmy! and yeah I can see how the lift would make things easier to work on. Maybe I can get away with just an add a leaf.... the rear does sag pretty bad and the front is pretty high. I was just looking around and I saw people running Zr2's with 33in tall tires with basically the setup I have...I just dont want to buy them and then have them rub like crazy if I hit a pebble...

its all up to you, i do agree that on many of the chevys the frame does show, but mine showed a whole lot more, also a lot of mud/dirt got up and underneath my frame/body ontop of the tranny etc, if you were to go a body lift, look into rock sliders spray painted black would look perfect on your truck
