Altoncustomtech's 2001 Jimmy = slow audio build

Alright, glad to start getting this posted up. With work and home taking up a lot of my normally free time this build will likely continue on into next year. Already installed in the Jimmy is the Kenwood KDC-X492 HU and Phoenix Gold RSD 6.5" components running off the HU. The PG's will be getting replaced by a set of Image Dynamics CTX 6.5" components powered by a Sundown SAX-125.2. The sub stage is three Sundown SA-8's powered by a Sundown SAZ-1500. RaamMat is going on the doors and panels and all wiring is Knukonceptz. Got everything on hand, just need to get it installed now. Onto a few pics.

A shot of the 125.2, bought used from Jacob at Sundown Audio.

Now onto the build.

I wanted to get the mid out from behind the door panel when I built the MDF baffle for it. Luckily the way the panel is made makes it very easy to do. Cutting the factory grille out of the panels.

One down, and the implement of destruction that helps make it so easy.

Now onto the driver's side.

Now for a little fab work.

Cut these out to match the factory plastic speaker housings, baffles, holders, thingys.

Getting the tools out and ready, though I forgot the small jig doesn't go up the the circle sizes I need for this, oops.

Getting started on the holes.
http://i889.photobucket.com/albums/a...1017001437.jpg

Cut this one out for a test fit hole for the Image Dynamics mid.
http://i889.photobucket.com/albums/a...1017001458.jpg

The greatest thing about using a router to cut the holes is that you can leave enough to make all the required cuts and finish the cuts like I did with my pocket knife, almost paper thin.

Quick shot of the recesses cut into the outer ring for the mids.

Rings are out and showing the fit.

http://i889.photobucket.com/albums/a...1017001611.jpg

This is a basic shot of what the baffles will look like when complete. I still have to align the rings with the hole in the door panel before I can attach them to the baffle board and cut the hole in it.

Gluing the rings to get them together
http://i889.photobucket.com/albums/a...1017001623.jpg

The rings are complete and ready to do the final alignment and finish the baffles.

Thanks, I can't wait to get it done, though I must. Damn cold weather and short days.

Well, it depends on what part of it you're referring to. All of the equipment and installation accessories I have for it cost in the neighborhood of $1000. Doing all the labor myself and the supplies have cost in the $50 neighborhood. All in all, not too expensive.

Okay, little update here. A friend on another forum was a real gem and sent me a couple of old Type R components tweeter cups to help out with the install. It seems that the flush mount tweeter cups for the PG RSD tweets are much larger than the Bravox CS60K tweeter's flush mount. Would have had the same problem with the ID's as well. So I got to working on it a little this weekend and was able to verify for certain that the Type R cups should work fine, of course with a little modification. Here's a few pics....

Here's a shot of on of the Type R cups.

Here's a comparison of the cups after removing about 1/16" of material on one, you can see the tooling marks.

And here's a couple of pics of the Bravox tweeter in the tooled cup. Fits like a glove, though I'll be securing them with a little CA glue before installing them in the truck.
